P0A7F is a generic hybrid and electric-vehicle code meaning the high-voltage battery management system has concluded that the traction battery pack itself has deteriorated beyond the limits programmed into the software. It is not a wiring fault code in the usual sense: the battery ECU has been watching the pack for a long time and has decided that its usable capacity, internal resistance or cell balance is no longer acceptable.

The battery ECU continuously monitors block (module) voltages, pack current and temperatures, and calculates state of charge and internal resistance for each block. When one block sags much further under load than its neighbours, recovers much faster on charge, or the pack can no longer hold charge across its normal operating window, the imbalance exceeds the calibrated threshold and P0A7F is stored. On Toyota and Lexus hybrids this code is very often accompanied by a P3000-series code plus a block-specific code such as P3011-P3024, which names the weak group of cells.
