P027A
Fuel Injector Group A Supply Voltage Circuit HighP027A is a generic OBD-II powertrain diagnostic trouble code: Fuel Injector Group A Supply Voltage Circuit High. It is logged by the engine control unit when the powertrain monitor detects that a specific fault threshold has been exceeded — typically resulting in the malfunction-indicator lamp (MIL / check-engine light) being illuminated.
What P027A means
P027A is stored when the PCM detects a higher-than-expected voltage on the supply circuit for injector Group A. While low voltage faults are more common, a high voltage condition can occur when there is a short to a voltage source on the supply monitoring circuit or when the PCM internal supply voltage reference is abnormal.
A high voltage on the injector supply monitoring circuit can also indicate a wiring fault such as a short between the supply line and a higher-voltage source in the harness, or an issue with the feedback circuit that the PCM uses to monitor supply rail voltage. In some architectures, the PCM uses a divided voltage sense line to monitor the injector supply, and a fault in that sense circuit can produce an apparent high voltage reading without the actual supply being elevated.
If the supply voltage is genuinely elevated beyond specification, it could damage injector solenoids or affect injection timing and pulse width calculations. The PCM may alter fueling strategy or reduce engine power as a protective measure. Diagnosis should include verifying actual supply voltage at the injector connector and checking the sense/feedback circuit for wiring faults before suspecting the PCM.
Common causes
Most-frequently reported root causes when P027A is logged.
-
1
Short to a higher voltage source on the Group A injector supply or sense wire.
-
2
Faulty PCM internal voltage sensing circuit for the injector supply rail.
-
3
Wiring harness damage causing contact between the supply monitoring wire and a voltage source.
-
4
Failed voltage regulator or power supply component upstream of the injector circuit.
-
5
Incorrect after-market wiring affecting the injector supply rail voltage.
-
6
Corroded connector causing resistive coupling between the supply and an adjacent high-voltage wire.

How to diagnose P027A
A typical diagnostic flow when this code is present.
-
1
Retrieve all DTCs and note any concurrent injector, fuel, or voltage-related codes.
-
2
Measure actual voltage at the Group A injector supply wire at the harness connector with the engine running.
-
3
Compare measured voltage to the specified supply voltage for the injector circuit.
-
4
Inspect the wiring harness for shorts between the injector supply wire and any higher-voltage circuits.
-
5
Check the PCM injector supply sense circuit wiring for damage or unintended contact with voltage sources.
-
6
Verify charging system voltage is within specification to rule out system overvoltage as a cause.
-
7
If actual voltage is correct but code persists, evaluate the PCM supply monitoring circuit.

Frequently asked questions
Is P027A less common than P026C?
Yes. Short-to-ground conditions causing low voltage faults are more common than short-to-voltage conditions. P027A is relatively uncommon in normally wired vehicles.
Can an overcharging alternator cause P027A?
If the charging system voltage is significantly elevated, it can raise injector supply voltage. However, this would typically affect many other circuits simultaneously and produce multiple codes.
Does P027A mean the injectors are damaged?
Not necessarily at the time of fault detection. However, sustained overvoltage on injector solenoids can shorten their service life. The underlying cause should be corrected promptly.
How does P027A differ from P026C?
P026C indicates the Group A injector supply voltage is too low (short to ground or open relay/fuse). P027A indicates it is too high (short to voltage or sense circuit fault).
Disabling P027A in software
RaceTune can permanently disable P027A — and any other OBD-II diagnostic trouble code — on every ECU family we support. The monitor is disabled inside the ECU itself, so the fault stops being logged: the warning light stays off and the engine never enters limp mode for this code. The change is tied to your exact software version.
Software modifications affect emissions compliance and are not road-legal in many jurisdictions. RaceTune service files are intended for motorsport, off-road, and export use.
