P0207
Injector Circuit Malfunction - Cylinder 7P0207 is a generic OBD-II powertrain diagnostic trouble code: Injector Circuit Malfunction - Cylinder 7. It is logged by the engine control unit when the fuel/inj monitor detects that a specific fault threshold has been exceeded — typically resulting in the malfunction-indicator lamp (MIL / check-engine light) being illuminated.
What P0207 means
P0207 is stored when the ECM/PCM detects an abnormal electrical condition — open circuit, short circuit, or out-of-range resistance — on the fuel injector control circuit for cylinder 7. This cylinder is present only on V8, V10, and V12 engines. The injector circuit runs from a shared power supply fuse and relay, through the wiring harness to the injector connector, through the solenoid coil (typically 12–16 Ω), and back to a dedicated driver transistor inside the PCM. A fault at any point causes the ECM to log P0207.
Cylinder 7 is located on Bank 2 on most V8 firing-order layouts, making the wiring run from the PCM relatively long and prone to heat and vibration damage near the valve cover. On truck and SUV platforms with large V8 or V10 engines, harness chafing against the intake manifold or valve cover is a recurring failure mode. Oil leaks from worn valve-cover gaskets can saturate the connector and cause intermittent high resistance. The actual injector solenoid can also fail internally (open coil), though this is less common than harness or connector faults.
A companion misfire code P0307 may accompany P0207 if fuel delivery to cylinder 7 is sufficiently disrupted. A flashing MIL indicates an active severe misfire and requires immediate attention to protect the catalytic converter.
Common causes
Most-frequently reported root causes when P0207 is logged.
-
1
Open or shorted wiring in the cylinder 7 injector harness, often caused by chafing against the valve cover or intake manifold.
-
2
Corroded, spread, or loose terminals at the cylinder 7 injector connector plug.
-
3
Blown fuse or failed relay on the shared injector power supply rail for Bank 2.
-
4
Injector solenoid coil internal open or short circuit.
-
5
Valve-cover gasket leak allowing oil to saturate the injector connector and wiring loom.
-
6
Poor PCM ground causing erroneous driver circuit voltage readings.
-
7
Failed PCM driver transistor for the cylinder 7 channel (uncommon).

How to diagnose P0207
A typical diagnostic flow when this code is present.
-
1
Scan the vehicle, retrieve all stored DTCs, and review freeze-frame data — note operating conditions (load, RPM, coolant temp) when P0207 was set and whether P0307 is also present.
-
2
Visually inspect the cylinder 7 injector harness from the PCM connector to the injector plug, paying special attention to areas near the valve cover and intake manifold where chafing is common.
-
3
Check the injector power supply fuse and relay shared by the Bank 2 injectors; confirm battery voltage at the injector high-side feed with the ignition on.
-
4
Disconnect the cylinder 7 injector and measure solenoid resistance — typical port injector spec is 12–16 Ω; an open or near-zero reading points to an internal injector fault.
-
5
Plug a noid light into the disconnected cylinder 7 injector connector and crank the engine; a non-flashing noid light indicates the PCM driver or the wiring between the PCM and connector is faulty.
-
6
Back-probe the injector signal wire with a multimeter or oscilloscope while the engine runs to measure pulse-width delivery and confirm the PCM is commanding the injector.
-
7
Perform an injector swap with an adjacent cylinder and re-scan to determine whether the fault follows the part or remains on the cylinder 7 circuit.

Frequently asked questions
Which engines can set P0207?
Only engines with 7 or more cylinders: V8, V10, and V12 configurations. Four-cylinder and most inline-6 engines cannot set this code.
Does P0207 always mean a dead cylinder?
Not necessarily. The code indicates an electrical circuit fault. If the circuit is degraded but not completely open, the injector may still fire intermittently and combustion may occur on most cycles, producing only mild symptoms.
Can moisture inside the ECM cause P0207?
Yes, though it is uncommon. Water intrusion through a damaged firewall grommet or condensation can corrode the injector driver PCB traces. If all external circuit tests pass, inspect the PCM connector for moisture or corrosion before replacing the module.
How urgent is this repair?
If the MIL is steady and drivability impact is minor, it is not an emergency but should be diagnosed promptly. If the MIL is flashing, the catalytic converter is at risk of heat damage — park the vehicle and arrange a repair before driving further.
Disabling P0207 in software
RaceTune can permanently disable P0207 — and any other OBD-II diagnostic trouble code — on every ECU family we support. The monitor is disabled inside the ECU itself, so the fault stops being logged: the warning light stays off and the engine never enters limp mode for this code. The change is tied to your exact software version.
Software modifications affect emissions compliance and are not road-legal in many jurisdictions. RaceTune service files are intended for motorsport, off-road, and export use.
