P011F

Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 2)

P011F is a generic OBD-II powertrain diagnostic trouble code: Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 2). It is logged by the engine control unit when the powertrain monitor detects that a specific fault threshold has been exceeded — typically resulting in the malfunction-indicator lamp (MIL / check-engine light) being illuminated.

What P011F means

P011F is the bank 2 counterpart to P011E and is set when the PCM/ECM detects that IAT sensor 1 on bank 2 is within its electrical range but is not correlating correctly with expected values. This code is applicable only to engines with two cylinder banks, such as V6, V8, or flat-configuration engines, where each bank has its own intake air temperature sensing.

The IAT sensor assists the ECM in calculating air charge density for fuel injection and timing adjustments. On dual-bank engines the two IAT sensors should read similarly at cold start and under steady-state conditions. If bank 2 diverges significantly from bank 1 or from expected values based on ambient conditions and coolant temperature correlation, the ECM flags this performance fault.

Diagnosis follows the same path as P011E but targets bank 2 components: the sensor, its connector, and the associated wiring harness on the bank 2 intake system. On some vehicles the IAT sensor is integrated into the mass airflow sensor assembly, making the repair more involved.

Common causes

Most-frequently reported root causes when P011F is logged.

  • 1
IAT sensor 1 on bank 2 with a shifted thermistor resistance curve.
  • 2
Moisture or oil contamination on the bank 2 sensor element.
  • 3
High resistance or intermittent connection in the bank 2 IAT signal circuit.
  • 4
Corroded connector at the bank 2 IAT sensor location.
  • 5
Air intake manifold leak on bank 2 altering the temperature sampled by the sensor.
  • 6
Significant asymmetry in air distribution between the two banks affecting sensor readings.
  • 7
ECM reference voltage inconsistency between the two IAT sensor circuits.

Symptoms drivers notice

MIL illuminated.
Possible fuel trim asymmetry between bank 1 and bank 2.
Slight reduction in performance or fuel economy.
No major driveability complaint under light load conditions.
Possible rough running or hesitation under heavy acceleration if the signal deviation is large.

How to diagnose P011F

A typical diagnostic flow when this code is present.

  1. 1
Connect a scan tool and compare live bank 1 and bank 2 IAT readings; at cold start they should be nearly equal.
  2. 2
Retrieve all DTCs and note any companion bank 2 fuel trim or MAF codes.
  3. 3
Locate the bank 2 IAT sensor and inspect its connector and wiring for corrosion or damage.
  4. 4
Measure the resistance of the bank 2 IAT sensor at a known temperature and compare to specification.
  5. 5
Verify reference voltage and ground integrity at the bank 2 sensor connector.
  6. 6
Inspect the bank 2 intake for air leaks that could expose the sensor to different temperature air.
  7. 7
Replace the bank 2 IAT sensor if resistance is out of specification or the sensor has been contaminated.

Frequently asked questions

If I only see P011F without P011E, what does that suggest?

It suggests the fault is specific to the bank 2 sensor circuit or the air delivery on bank 2, rather than a global issue affecting both sides.

Is P011F a serious fault?

It is a monitored fault that affects fuel and timing calculations, but it is rarely immediately severe. However, it should be corrected to restore proper emission control and performance.

Could a vacuum leak near the bank 2 sensor set this code?

A significant intake air leak near the sensor could alter the temperature it measures, potentially causing a plausibility fault relative to bank 1 or coolant-based correlation.

Is the IAT sensor always a separate part on bank 2?

Not always. On some engines it is integrated into the MAF sensor on the intake tract, and replacing the sensor requires purchasing the MAF/IAT combined assembly.

Disabling P011F in software

RaceTune can permanently disable P011F — and any other OBD-II diagnostic trouble code — on every ECU family we support. The monitor is disabled inside the ECU itself, so the fault stops being logged: the warning light stays off and the engine never enters limp mode for this code. The change is tied to your exact software version.

Permanent
The monitor is disabled in the ECU itself — not just cleared. It cannot return.
Tailored to your file
Each patch is matched to your specific software version — never a one-size-fits-all file.
Reversible
The original file is always preserved. Reflash the stock to return the ECU to factory state.

Software modifications affect emissions compliance and are not road-legal in many jurisdictions. RaceTune service files are intended for motorsport, off-road, and export use.
